Going to be up in Glenshee this weekend, any recommendations for routes? Technical/singletrack interest rather than monster slogs!

in the immediate area of glenshee – nothing much that'll be technical singletrack. if you can get up to braemar there are options there.

    Hi Stevo,

You could give Morrone Birkwood a try for some nice singletrack, followed by a spin around Creag Choinnich via Queen's Drive & Lion's Face.

Head up Chapel Brae until you join a landrover track. Follow the track over the deer grid until you reach the view point. Head back along the track until the junction with the footpath (fire beaters mark the junction). The path/track then heads toward a vehicle gate/kissing gate. Through the gate and onward towards the next waypoint, a style with a marker board for the Birkwood. Don't croos the style, but follow the path down to a couple of stream crossings (take them on the right and you won't get wet feet). The path then passes through another kissing gate and ends back at the deer grid.

Head back to the view point up the track. From the viewpoint follow the fence until you reach a gate with caravan on the other side. Through the gate, and down the hill (avoiding sheep if they are there). You'll see another track heading down the hill (Tomintoul). This brings you out on the road. Turn left and follow the road until you see a foot bridge over the river. After crossing the bridge head for the gate on the other side of the field between the houses. Turn left out of the gate, then just before you get to the carpark you'll see a track heading up to the right. This brings you out onto the A93 between Braemar Lodge & Bowling green. Turn right and head up the road 500m.

Another landrover track cuts back up the hill on your left. Ride around the gate post to access the track, then follow this to the top. You will then be faced with two options. Follow the track to the lion's Face path, or break left for a rooty/rocky traverse down the flank of Creag Choinnich and a coffee.

If you follow the Lion's face you will be treated to a fast slippery descent to a council depot (watch the wooden footbridges). Look for the footpath next to the depot entrance as this leads onto a fantastic route through the woods (running parallel with the road). There are a couple of steps, both rideable, as well as some technical root sections to contend with. The path ends at the Castle with a gentle spin up the road to cool down.

Once back in the village, head for a well earned coffee and cake at taste… (you'll see it at the foot of Chapel Brae).

    Total time 1.5/2.5 hours.

I'm away this weekend, so enjoy.

Have a look at this thread Stevo:

It's in the vicinity and not as much of a slog as you might imagine – lots of excellent tech riding.
