Does anyone have any decent route maps of the Surrey hills that they wouldn’t mind sharing with me. Haven’t ridden there much so a bit unsure where exactly you can ride. Not bothered about a big old ride, just a few bits in a loop that I could piece together, are there any good websites or books detailing the routes?

    Cheers

this includes the wiggle route for mtb’s – sticks to bridleways but covers quite a wide area and you can keep an eye out for interesting stuff off the main trail. gps route linkehttp://www.ukcyclingevents.co.uk/Ups&DownsMTBEventInfomation in there too

There is loads of riding inc sigletrack in the surrey hills. checkout http://www.diaryofamountainbiker.com and contact richard the web admin through the site. He’s a real nice guy and i’m sure he could help you out as they ride around that area all the time!

topgunsteve – I rode it last year not a huge amount of singletrack from memory (well, not technical stuff, anyway) – it’s mostly bridleway type stuff – as I say though it’s a useful way to navigate round and see what’s off the sides.

Thanks guys, this should keep me busy for a while, wwaswas – I’ll take the chick on that route, it sounds like it won’t be too tricky for her.

Thanks for all the links guys!

gee – can I ask where you started from please. Was it your house or a public car park ?

gee’s route is a pretty good intro and includes most of the well-known trails. If you are driving to the area, you probably dont want to do the big loop to the West of Hound House Lane (although there is a fun trail immediately west of there which is on gee’s GPS track.)

Do a search on Hurtwood Control Car Parks 2, 3 or 10 all would be good places to start that route.

Be mindful that some non-bikers get pissed off with people riding the drop into Car Park 2 so if you want to do that (once you look on a map you can work it out), pls be careful, discrete, dont jump the ditch onto someone’s dog, etc

Nirvana Killer Loop from Nirvana Bikes, they do group rides too. Also worth checking out the North Downs Way, not as busy as the trails mentioned above.

Only if you’re northern and are seeking rocky doubletrack that stretches over a bleak landscape as far as the eye can see. If you want fast, flowing singletrack then you’re in luck.

Gee’s route goes from Newlands Corner, the big car park at the top. Covers all the decent trails, I’d agree with the above though, you can cut the distance down significantly (if you want to), but starting in Peaslake or similar.
