    There all the same right?

I ask as some rotors say for this brake or that brake, but essentially at a base level its a metal disc attached to your wheel.

I should just choose a balance between price, weight and fancy pattern?

Basically although some wear a bit funnily due to the hole pattern. Shimano make a good general one.

Some are wider and some are thicker.

All discs pretty much universal. Only ones to be aware of are the certain hopes which have a slightly thicker disc, V2 and V4. Shimano ones are pretty cheap these days in both plain and floating. Superstar floaters if you want some colour.

Some are lighter too, but basically… yes.

I’ve had some really poor braking performance when I’ve used very light weight rotors.

Is it a truism that the very light rotors don’t perform as well as the less holey??

I found that my kcnc rotors didn’t brake as well as the avid xx floating rotors.

What I’d really like is a lightish rotor that still brakes well. Moon on a stick I think though.

I found Avid ones from a few years ago tended to warp. Not had that problem with Shimano ones.
