Late to the show on this, but the wife’s phone won’t run some newer apps so it’s time to try installing a custom ROM.

Any recommendations for good easy-to-understand guides out there?

    TIA

Note that there’s different revisions of the Desire classic; Revolutionary only works on some, Unrevoked on others (IIRC). Look at the ‘all things root’ section on AndroidForums.

While rooting isn’t hard make sure you are clear about what steps you need to take so you don’t brick your phone. I also suggest you backup.

You’d have to try exceptionally hard to brick it permanently, but having a plan first is certainly a good idea.

Thanks for the replies, I’d been trying the Android Forums guide but it kept failing at the hboot install. The Mark Hatton guide worked a treat though, not sure why as it exactly the same downloads.

Got it rooted & Cyanogen loaded up, looks good. Next thing is to try updating my Desire S
