It is the very rear molar on the top right (my right) so not visible.
Nerve pain when eating or sucking on the the two teeth together (the one just in front of it)
So what would you do?

yes. had root canal work some years ago, then had a crown put on. Never flt right and I had the crown replaced a couple of times. Eneventually decided to have it pulled - wasn't pleasent but well worth it.

I have had several Root canals done in the past but never had a tooth pulled with out being completely under, so I am a little anxious about an extraction.

My wife recently had this choice. She had a headache for about a week, before she worked out that it was toothache. Dentist gave her the choice of root canal work in a months time, or whip the offending tooth out on the spot.
After an hour in the chair the awkward little bugger finally came out. She was in pretty bad pain for about a week before it eventually got better. Made all that much worse by the fact she's pregnant and can't take anything other than paracetamol!.
My advice would be to get it pulled, but get put under first.

My Dentist is of the view that your teeth keep each other in place.So if you lose the tooth you may also lose the one below that it presses against and the two ajacent teeth may drift. The drifting teeth will create gaps where food can trap creating a hygene problem.
When i was given the choice i went for route cannal. I hated the procedure but it's been fine for 20 odd years.

I've had quite a bit of root canal work done (even one that was underneath a crown - the dentist went in through the crown and left it intact) and don't mind it a bit. As long as you're well numbed and can relax, the only problem is the smell when he reams down to the infected bit.

If you have a good dentist then root canal work is fine. I was TERRIFIED before I had a root canal done, I literally couldn't sleep for a week. But it was 100% painless and I am well chuffed with the result.

Sounds like root canal, then. Had them before so at least I know what to expect.
Don't fancy lying in the chair with a pair of pliars in my mouth for 60 mins!

root canals generally the better option. but if its a back tooth then you dont ahve to worry too much about gaps unless youve got wisdom teeth back there - it gives them room to move and grow.
had a few root canals done in my time, none particularly painful. also had a upper back most molar out too. again, not particular painful but really wierd feeling when you feel the tooth being twisted and eventually detaching, and the feeling is way way behind your nose

OUT.
quicker, cheaper, less painful, no future problems.
the only time i would look at root canal work is if its a tooth that can not easily be removed (for its position)

Best bit about root canal work is that if the tooth has problems in future no jabs are necessary for work on it.

Ask about th odds of success. I was told that there was a 20% chance of it needing redone at the same cost so went for the £20 option. Took less than two minutes. Mind she was a strapping lass and had a knee on my chest. Ah the good old days.

Ive had root canal and wisdom tooth extraction, neither hurt both done under local.

Either. I was on course for root canal, but switched to extraction as there was little to save of the tooth.
No pain & the blighter was out in under a minute. Premolar though, so only one root to deal with.Posted 2 years ago #
