So, I’m in the market for some new carriers. I need something that will fit the fatbike and I’d like to leave it in place permanently without it affecting the MPG too much. I’ve got a set of Whispbars ordered for the car. I do have some quite old Thule 532’s knocking around but they look like they have the drag coefficient of a brick and I’m not keen on leaving them on the roof permanently – although perhaps even the newer swooshy looking racks are just as bad?

I think I’ve narrowed it down to three:
    – Whispbar WB201 (probably need to put on different wheel straps for the fatbike)
    – Yakima Frontloader (I know this fits the fatbike tyres)
    – Thule 591 (pretty much everyone’s go to rack it appears)

So does anyone have anything to add to the options list or any experience with MPG / noise hit with any of the above? I’ll be using it to transport everything from the road bike to the fatbike with an Alpine160 in between……

You’ll need bungees for the 591. Several on the front wheel, to stop it twisting/pivoting.
