  • Romantic one-night stay in… Bath?

We’re looking for a rare and much needed night away from the kids on Monday, and I was going to spend my Hilton points on our local hotel in Cardiff – it’s nice, and there is plenty to do, but on the downside we live in Cardiff anyway…

However the Bath Hilton costs fewer points. I’ve only been to Bath for the day, what’s it like to spend an evening there, and what’s to see and do beyond the usual tourist stuff that we’ve already done?

Pace needs to be very slow, there’s a chance we may just lounge around watching telly all afternoon or reading books 🙂

I’m sure the inside is nice, but the outside of the Hilton in Bath could well be in competition for the ugliest building in the city!

My suggestion for something a little different, would be to head to Bath Abbey to do their “Tower tour” (http://www.bathabbey.org/visiting-abbey/tower-tours), it’s £6 a head and gets you the best view of Bath from the top. Depending on your point of view, you may find the rest of the tour quite interesting too – but it’s worth it for the view alone.

You don’t say when you’re going, but if the weather is nice then a nice trip is to walk to the Boating Station (http://www.bathboating.co.uk/boats/) and take a punt/skiff/kayak out on the river. You can either head towards Pultney Bridge, or up towards the weir – the latter option is my preferred as you can take a leisurely lunch at the Bathampton Mill (http://www.thebathamptonmill.co.uk/) before letting the light current help you home again!

Go to the thermae bath spa (http://www.thermaebathspa.com/), and relax in the rooftop pool at sunset, followed by a glass of champers and a session in the steam rooms….

if you genuinely want romantic accomodation, forget the hilton.

This place is fabulous but pricey, where we had our wedding 🙂

Yeah but you don’t get much food there titusrider!

I had a special birthday there, been out yomping so had worked up an appetite. All we got was nouveau cuisine and the blokes were wanting to phone for a Domino’s pizza!

But do they accept Hilton points.

Where’s that thread about people not reading the OP and answering a different question?

There’s the Costume Museum at the Assembly Rooms, which your good lady might well enjoy, and you can eat there, or down at the Pump Rooms, which are run by the same people.
