Yeti, not in my gym they don't - they wear shorts which is why i know they have sparrow legs. Mine are way more toned than 90% of the blokes in there.

DirtyG you know the drill... pictures or it didn't happen
I reckon that is significantly more than most of the bodybuilders allegedly on roids down your local gym...
P.S. dont use the leg press...Squat. Requires less weight and uses more muscles. Leg press can drain you as you can load it up with silly weight.
Pretty blimming good for a clean athlete who apparently weights 92kg though.
And whilst we are on the subject, why do blokes go for the top heavy look? I never see blokes at my gym using any leg weights, they have sparrow legs and look like Arnie on their top half. Do they really think this is a good look?
That was one of the most common mistakes that I saw people doing when I went to the gym (IMO). Mostly made by men. Also commonplace:
-Trying to lift the heaviest weight possible, irrespective of whether your technique is any good or not.
-Drinking lots of protein shakes and lifting lots of heavy weights but never doing cardio and (presumably) eating an otherwise poor diet, ending up being fat with big arms(!)
I hasten to add that this is amateur weight lifters and not a slur on those that are more serious!

Not saying Staff dopes or uses steroids but there have been plenty of positive tests for banned substances within track cycling.
You find quite a few track cyclists talking on steroid forums. Presumably they're at lower levels in the sport or they'd be a bit more discreet. Pretty rife in athletics in general at university level (still).
*Makes note never to go anywhere near a gym*
If you have discipline Steriods work, simple as that. Most of the pro rugby players I used to know were on the gear. They don't fit the above claims of useless muscle do they? Nor do they really care about being defined, the bulk is for a purpose. Of course; steroids are so last decade,it is all about HGH now,or so I am told. There was a time in the late 90's when every bugger was on them, like 17yo kids at the gym roaring as they benched 40kg.As it stands there are two powerlifting federations in Britain, one that tests, and suprise, suprise, one that does not.Over the board the "clean" fed's records are 33% lower than the "dirty" federation
Dirtygirl, for the effect of steroids on cyclists, try looking for pix of Tammy Thomas... it's frightening and irreversible.

It's a sad state of affairs when a sport has to have a special club just for those people who don't use drugs.
And that's power lifting, I believe the situation is far worse for body builders.
I'm the opposite to the average gym member, I have to train upper body to prevent the T-rex look! I'm 37 now and have been weight training since I was 15, it does seem like the natural folks are becoming the minority!
It's a sad state of affairs when a sport has to have a special club just for those people who don't use meat.
I used to work with a super serious body builder type
in meetings he would randomly go bright red and start panting, also very prone to mood swings.
nothing going on there then hey?

Much better to compete on a level playing field and be open and honest about it.
Is enhancing your performance using certain drugs any different from enhancing your performance via surgery (laser eye etc.) or other medical interventions (cortizone injections etc)?
Discuss...
When you tear a bicep off they drill a hole in your bone and stick the tendon in to fix it. The fix is better than the original. Hmmm....
Gene therapy will be (is?) the next big thing.
Hardcore!
Personally I think that in the gym... hand straps, weight belts and gloves are all cheating a bit.
By that logic having tread on your tyres is cheating too
*takes stanley knife to nobblies*
You get my point though... you need straps to do deadlifts, then your arms are too weak... etc
No I don't at all
It's not a competition for who has the strongest handshake, it's who can do the biggest deadlift.
For competition you can't use wraps, you use gum or chalk. But... in competition you do one lift at a time. In training you do reps and lots of them. Grip will always be the weakest link. Remove that weak link and your training volume increases and your unaided lift goes up.
And.. of course, your hands get torn to bits training raw.
Not if you toughen your hands up?
Using steriods is pretty shamefull IMO. That's why very few like to admit to it.
Mainly used by people who want everyone to be impressed by their buffness; pretty pathetic.
It should quite rightfully be banned from every physical competition as it becomes more about who is more technically adept at taking drugs than talent/physical prowess. It's comparable with having motors hidden in seat tubes.
Also, they do not increase or decrease the size of your jake, but do shrink the bowlacks.
meh, doubt you'll ever stop drugs in sport, and maybe especially things like roids among wannabe big men as opposed to competitive athletes (who'll have to find new methods that are not yet detectable). If you're not a pro/high level competitor, it can't be worth the health risks IMO
epo - ooh, it's a terrible thing, but it's OK for well-funded athletes to spend ages altitude training for broadly same benefits.
i always take drugs when doing sport... slowing myself down with some crack, its the only way i can stop myself from beating everyone by a massive margin.
I trained alongside Charles Clairmont some while ago, hell of a physique. The level of dedication to get to that stage is impressive, whilst people may not approve of the results or the methods, i personally admire the discipline its takes to acheive.
As for whether steroid are cheating, not sure. As has been mentioned above, some surgical procedures give beter than natural results. I remember hearing that Tiger Woods had corrective eye surgey which gave him better than normal vision (whatever that means). Does this give him an advantage when playing golf?
Makes me laugh when people deride bodybuilding, work hard, build a strong physique and thats wrong. Yet cosmetic surgery is somehow more acceptable.
My gym is full of stupidly fit people who would not dream of touching any non-recreational drugs. There are also some very well built people who are fit as a butchers dog. It is a uni gym though.
Are you implying that there are fit steroid junkies at your gym then SBZ?
Or just saying there are fit people and fit people at your gym?
TSY, out of interest which Gym do you go to?
Ooh that's pretty personal.. near my work in Didcot.

Sorry about that, but the reason I ask is that I've used a couple of gyms in Witney and there is a noticeable lack of the type of guys you’re talking about (which in my opinion is great as it gives a much more laid back atmosphere).
There will be people taking steroids, HGH and HCG who want to be insanely fit, rather than huge - I'm sure some adventure racers, triathletes etc. It only makes you grow huge if you do certain type of training.
