Bryde (aka Sarah Howells) has a few EPs out at present and working on first solo album. I think she deserves a more exposure as she is a clever songsmith and captivating live.
Still wear my Babes In Toyland teeshirt! Saw them at the Fleece in Bristol, and also Katastrophy Wife, Kat Bjelland’s other band, which was, to put it bluntly, a catastrophe! She was just embarrassingly bad, me and my mate left and went to the Seven Stars pub next door.
Good call on Bryde, I’ve seen Sarah with Paper Aeroplanes a number of times, and several times as Bryde, she’s a great songwriter and singer, and the album should be very interesting.
She’s a really lovely person, too, got a big hug when I saw her play Greenman last year. She’s touring soon, must get tickets organised…
So to those who mentioned Arch Enemy; what’s your opinion on Angela vs Alissa?
Angela. No real interest in the band, but her voice was fairly remarkable singing with them. Speaking of remarkable voices in otherwise fairly dull bands:

These two popped up on shuffle play the other day:

The Like
Their lineup had various members who have parents in the music business, the drummer, Tennessee Thomas, is the daughter of Pete Thomas, long-time drummer with Elvis Costello.
Super band live, saw them a couple of times, but they sort of fell apart when their bassist suddenly left and formed her own band. Shame, the made a couple of fine albums.
The Drink are superb, Dearbhla Minogue the singer/guitarist is bloody good, she plays exceedingly well.
This is a great thread. I’m finding some new stuff here and it’s great to listen to other people’s music taste.
I’ve just found a band called Lovebites. All female band from Japan. Great guitar work.
Hopefully I’ve added the video correctly.
Seen Blood Red Shoes a number of times, always great live, last two times I saw them was at The Trinity in Bristol, and each time they were supported by Slaves, who seem to be going on to greater things, which still seems to be denied to BRS.
Love Blonde Redhead, I know very little about them, but they make great music.
Not sure if they’ve been mentioned, but Hurray For The Riff Raff are stunningly good live, and they make good albums too; saw them at Greenman last year, and Alynda played a five song set in the Rough Trade tent afterwards, a force of nature on stage, really sweet and funny up close.
