I enjoy Glastonbury from the comfort of my armchair … his middle of the afternoon set was the best thing of 2016 … admittedly that was as much to do with his band … it was full of smile inducing surprises.

I’ve no interest in his music, so not fussed about him as a ‘star’, but see him often (last time he was stood behind me in the queue at the bank) and pass time of day, everyone local to him hasn’t got a bad word to say about him, lovely bloke.

For anyone into the very latest music here’s junior’s most recent composition. Some kind of techno, I’m no specialist but it’s his response to a conversation we had about how techno artists have used the same sound samples for years and perhaps he should seek out new ones or record some of his own. What do you lot think of it?

RP’s last album was his best since Manic Nirvana imo. The ‘Somebody’s There’ track is glorious.

What do you lot think of it?

It’s okay. I like the breakdown around 6:30 but overall it’s too drawn out for my tastes (though that’s kind of the genre, isn’t it). I reckon there’s a few good melodies in there that aren’t really exploited but again, the genre dictates a certain degree of presentation. If I re-mixed it I’d push a few of those closer to the front and have a few sections of shoving that stuff into folks heads so it rattles around after the track’s finished.

Thanks, Teasel. Good constructive points for him. He plays live and DJs, and needs to adapt to not having a captive audience that are stil there at six minutes. Nine minutes is a long time to hold people on soundcloud, I’m impressed you got there!

I didn’t say I wasn’t giving it my best moves while listening…

But seriously, I did a few tracks with a guy from Brazil called Cavalaska and he started with some very similar stuff with similar construction faults that I helped to shape with a view to making something a bit more commercial. I haven’t listened recently but he modified a few tracks to sit better with a wider audience and got a bit more interest. Last I heard he was kicking out a load of dubstep stuff. Might be worth junior having a listen when he gets a minute. Just another guy getting out there, doing his thing.

Edit : I’m no one special so take with a pinch of salt, obviously. Just a dabbler.

Just had a listen to ol’ Cav. Sounds like he’s gone back to doing his thing from BITD.

Not bad production, though probably not much use to your nipper.

The only issue I had with last nights performance on Later was the blooming violinist.. i suspect playing “upto” Planty means trying to play over him.. hope they got a talking to..

What decline would that be, exactly?
He’s in the lucky position to be able to do anything he damn well pleases, without giving a flying **** about what you, or the DesB’s of this world think.
Few, if any, on here are likely to have heard of JD Souther, he released an album back in 1978 called Black Rose, highly rated by NME at the time, and wrote or co-wrote a bunch of songs by The Eagles, including New Kid In Town, and songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt and many others, very country-rock.
I saw him play a gig in a 300-capacity venue in Bristol, because, like Plant, he no longer has to give an actual rat’s ass about who he has to please musically and can play where and when he wants.

Plant is still good.

As others have said ^^^ he’s still able to perform to a high standard, because of past successes he can do what he wants without caring about what anyone else thinks, he’s under no pressure to deliver commercial success, he continues to evolve and expand his/our musical horizons.

What’s not to like?

I love Zep and love Plant’s solo stuff; he’s got a real canon of work now that stacks up with anyones from that era. Plus he’s a really really sound bloke it seems.

I loved fate of nations and then all the strange sensation/sensational space shifter stuff. Plus the Unledded album from 1994, with the best version of Kashmir you can get in my opinion, with the massive Egyptian orchestra – awesome

page seems to have accepted that Zep was his high point so is just concerned with curating their legacy whereas Plant (and JPJ) are just into making new music.

I’m glad to see that Plant is sticking with his band and particularly Justin Adams as he knows he’s onto a good thing. I’m so glad he didn’t follow the money and tour as Led zep after the 2007 reunion

re 6music gig – so great to see the reworking of ‘the lemon song’ – I was dancing round the room to that with my 1 year old

Saw him at Roundhpuse a year or so ago and he was genuinely excellent. The band rolled out Wholle Lotta Love and it was a fantastic moment when Bob hit the heights. I was not expecting any Zep tracks to sound so darned good after all these years.
Haven’t caught up with Catching Fire yet but the last album was really good.
His last 5-10 years are probably his best since Zep split. As said above, hardly anyone from his area is doing anything credible anymore – the guy is worthy of his leg-endedness.

Well I loved him on Jules….and album review according to Guardian ‘artfully flesh out the rock and folk elements with splashes of bendir, oud and djembe’ Ok he has done a few C & W bits but his backing bands are generally superb

Raising Sand in my case.

I have no problem with Raising Sand, I have other Alison Kraus music, and they work well together.
Bluegrass is just another folk music derived from Scottish, Irish and English tradition taken across to the US.
What it’s not is C&W ‘hat music’.
Plant has always included aspects of music from other cultures and other parts of the world in his own, just listen to ‘Kashmir’.

CZ – I am Scots, I quite like folk and blue grass. Even some Northumbrian folk is OK.
And I agree with borrowing the bits of music he likes. Plant freely admits he’s done that. Sometimes it’s fantastic.

I just didn’t like that album. If you did, excellent it’s good that tastes differ.

Confession – I heard a song on Jools and thought it was good. So pleased he doesn’t try do that wailing anymore. Mostly, it was good guitars. Far from the worst thing on Later that’s fer sher. Wouldn’t buy the album though.
