    Hi

I'm looking into upgrading my road bike as I can't ride off-road until I'm stronger (broken tibia). For all-round use (not training, racing and sportives), would an amateur benefit from aero deep section rims, or tubeless tyres? I really want lighter wheels than my askium and heavy tyre combo!

    Thanks in advance! Antony

Aero wheels look cool but they give a harsh'er ride.

Those are I believe the two deciding factors.

    Depends
If you ride fast then aero rims can make a big difference. If you are not used to tubeless I would forget them they do have their advantages but clinchers are now so good that their advantage perceived or real is quite slim.
Also what does all round use mean? If it isn't training, racing or sportives. If it means pootling about at less than 18-20mph( nothing wrong in that btw) then save your money and buy a quality pair of handbuilt quality clinchers- lighter, stiffer, easier to repair and serivice than your aksiums.

My 46 mm reynolds are definately not harsh in fact I would say one of the most comfortable wheels I have.

Yeah, they do look very cool, and I must admit I am vain when upgrading my bike is concerned! I ride a synapse so the stiffness shouldn't be too bad…

Ed – sorry, I meant everything but training! I intend to get into more races/TT/sportives, and pre-broken leg I could average 21mph over 30 miles when gunning it (I wasn't doing any specific training then so this should improve).
