  • Road wheels: do all 50mm rims require the same length spokes?

I can’t decide if this is a daft question or not…

I have some Shimano RS80 C50 wheels, like these:

The rear rim is cracked and needs replacing. Do you reckon I can I rebuild it with a Gigantex (or similar) carbon 50mm rim using the same spokes?

Possibly but the deeper the rim (and 50mm is fairly deep), the more potential for varying ERD (effective rim diameter – the number you need to consider for spoke length calcs) – eg the nipples could sit at either the top or bottom of the rim or anywhere between which could mean considerable difference in spoke length.

You need to find out the ERD of both rims.
