Just finished Fergal Keane's superb - if harrowing - account of the siege of Kohima, in which British and Indian forces (notably the West Kents & the Assam Regiment) held out against a huge Japanese force, on a ridge in NE India that rapidly became a necropolis for both sides. It gave rise to the famous epitaph for the 2nd Division (When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today).
Well worth reading.
