In typical STW style I’ll recommend the Spesh Phat Wrap instead. Stupid name but seems to work.

Bend your arms, lean in a bit. Takes the weight off, or go down the LBS and buy your way to Nirvana, obviously

You could get some Specialized BG mitts to go with the Spec. tape.

I’d say it’s not the gloves and more likely a positional issue, can you lift your hands off the bars easily while riding along?

For me it’s positional carpal tunnel syndrome, pins and needles in my left thumb and the first two fingers after an hour or so

I’ve got BG mitts and phat tape, it happens without mitts as well so it’s not them causing a restriction

Left hand off the bars, shake it, problem gone for a while. Or I could work on my wrist position…

Pretty much nailed in the first few posts.

I’ve got some ‘ergonomic’ gel-padded mitts and they are worse than useless- I now ride bare-handed when its warm, and with thin completely unpadded full fingers when its cooler. I rode Paris-Roubaix sportif with those unpadded gloves (it was cold and wet unlike race day) and single-wrapped bar tape- bent elbows, soft grip on the bars, relaxed upper body and came away ache free.

Can you get gel pads for under the bar tape? Discovered yesterday that being in the drops for a couple of miles makes my hands sore, looking for a pad to sit just at the lower end of the curve.

Bring the bars a little nearer. I ride without padding on carbon bars with the thinnest Fizik tape. But I put little weight through my arms as most weight is taken through the legs pressing on the pedals.

Sorting out your position is the only long term solution. As above, bars a little nearer or saddle a little further back, or both. A good rule of thumb is that when pushing a big gear hard you should be able to take your hands off the bars and support yourself with your core without changing the angle of your back.

    Yes, Specialised Bar Phat tape!
I like a big fat soft padded bar too. I’ve got Specialised Bar Phat tape and I’ve put a double layer of the gel from the levers back to just round the bend of the bar, where your hand mostly are. Trek/Bontrager also do these mitts http://www.bontrager.com/model/07713 which have a lovely padded palm and seem very tough. They’re about £13 which is a bargain.
