    Which SRAM/Shimano 9 speed ones come with an alloy carrier, similar to XT?

    Ultegra, but if it’s to protect an alloy free hub you don’t really have to bother..

    Why don’t you have to bother?

    I’ve had cassettes without the carrier dig into alloy freehubs in a big way and need a lot of wiggling and wrestling to free up. Wouldn’t use anything but an Ultegra on an alloy freehub.
