You must use Shimano with Shimano, Campag with Campag. Within that anything will do.

More or less, yes, within the same brand and cage length. There’s a pre-post 2000 thing with campag 9s IIRC.

If the cassette is worn you’ll need to replace that too.

Any shimano 8/9 speed rear mech.
If its cheap you’re after Sunrace does a half decent one for not much money. And there’s Microshift as well.
Otherwise the usual – Shimano.

So a 9 speed rear mech would do as well although
