Anyone used insulation tape instead of rim tape, or some other household tape? I want/need to have a ride tonight but I’m rim tape less and can’t get to the shops.

electrical tape is the weight weenie solution. It should work but I have never tried it as I work in a shop so I am never short of rim tape.

leccy tape stretches so it’ll be ok at low pressures for a while, but not for long.

Used insulation tape numerous times, usually go round twice, no problems so far.

Insulation tape in my road wheels.

Done a couple of thousand miles on them and I continue to not die.

Bandage tape is good for a temp fix, I find insulation tape gets cut by the spoke holes in your rims after a while.

I used it for years in a couple of rims, just 2 layers.

have used both many times. Electrical tape is fine providing you don’t stretch it during application.

green/yellow earth tape looks ghetto but the black tape is much faster

OK ta. I’m reassured enough to get on and do it.

I even have it on a couple of wheels running tubeless! No issues. And dirt cheap!
