    I’m ready now.

After having the bikes nicked a month ago I asked a mates dad who’s an agricultural fabricator to knock me up a storage cage. Well it’s finished, I think there’s getting on a quarter of a tonne of steel in there, hugely overengineered in a good way, looks like it could could withstand a small nuclear explosion.

On a plus side it appears to give me storage space in the garage too.

    That is all.

Worth a few quid in scrap, that. Make sure it’s bolted down.

Yep, internal ground anchors, but it had to go on rollers to get it into place. 😀

Hope so as the new bike is nearly full house on the enduro bingo game.

Does it double up as child storage?

They’ll probably just nick the keys to the cage next time.

Martin, if I catch the scrotes at it again I am tempted to make use of it as a temporary holding cell.

    Does it have lasers?

Aye, it’s a Facebook image. To be honest it doesn’t look exciting from the outside.

When I’m finished it will. Considering having a play with a Pi relearning some coding and building a fairly self contained ir camera system and alarm.

I was starting to hope that was a pic, and it had a shield of invisibility.

    Is it like these….

No, it’s 8′ deep, 4′ wide and 4′ high with a full 4’x4′ door on the end. The panels are made from 3mm galvanised steel plate welded onto a 50mm angle iron frame. The side against the wall is done in 50mm weldmesh for ventilation, cost and to give me a fighting chance of picking anything up that falls down the back.

Gate hinges welded onto the door and getting on half inch thick slide bolts to lock it. Door has an internal angle iron frame to make sure it can’t be lifted.

Plates are welded to the base and expanding bolts into the concrete garage base to fix it down with a resin in there just to be sure.

I’ll try and get some photos on somewhere to load them on here later. Jeeze I wish you could just do direct uploads or it’d recognise ampersands.

Just use Imgur it’s about as direct as you’re going to get.

Only as good as it’s weakest point, which may well be the lock. Presumably you’ve got a kick ass one in mind ?

Nothing is going to be impermeable but to get in will take time and noise which gives the chance to wake up and notice.

Are those hinges grinder proof ? Or have you hinge bolts inside ?

If they’re starting with a grinder I’d hope I wake up.

I’d get your dad to weld on some lock/hinge covers esp.over those bolt end bits

That looks like a complete waste of time unless you do what nick says and cover those bolts. They look like standard door bolts. You’d get through them in seconds with a bolt cropper

    Nice work,
As a matter of interest how much did it cost materials and labour wise?
As an aside, you might want to paint it with some kind of anti corrosion paint or it will become very orange soon and every time you brush past it you’ll be covered in rust flakes.

Nice box, it ain’t galvanised though.

Curious thieves might think you’ve some gold bullion in there!

They’re not standard door bolt, no.

Painting to happen when I’m not bed ridden. Price was only slightly more than the big asguard bike box but it’s more usable in the garage.

You could put a length of scaffold pole or metal through from the side, so it went through the frames, then a lock that stopped it being removed.

I am working on a similar thing but it will be the base for my bench. More of a cage so the lock can go inside and I’ll need to put my hand through to get a key in. That will stop a bar being put into the lock. Using 50mm box for much of it and solid in places.
