Having just today had keyhole surgery performed to repair my hernia. Am already walking, albeit a bit stiffly at the moment and everything so far appears to be work normally. They've said probably seven days before being back at work so was wondering if anyone knew from their experience.
I'm thinking about some gentle rides along the river in 2-3 weeks time.

If it hurts, stop, otherwise probably ok. Perhaos start off on exercise bike, so you can stop if it hurts and move into it gently
i am on medical enforced bike layoff at the moment............and boy am i fecked off and bored.

Ditto to ton's sentiments; bored witless here as well, and hopefully you'll be back before too long. I have a couple of mates who've had it done and the advice above sounds similar to how they managed their recovery. Get well soon!
Just had a disk removed - 4 weeks of enforced nothing - thank god for lovefilm free trial streamed straight to PS3. Might just be back on the bike by xmas.
i'm glad i'm not the only one - got knocked off last monday; have whiplash and bruised sacrum. spent last week moping and feeling sorry for myself.
this week i am trying to see what exercise i can do; so far bit on the turbo and cross trainer at the gym - normally i would hate the cross trainer but i'm pretty pleased to be moving atm.
Um, proper nursey nurse here, and after a proper appendix op by a surgical reg with big hands for a nasty retro-caecal appendix I was out on the bike after 7 days. Against all sensible medical advice....
I, too, am laid up at the mo. But it is not me that is unwell - it's the OH 
I am unable to leave her alone, even for a few moments, just in case.....

Am following this too as had a pre-op assessment yesterday for my hernia operation. Have been told it'll be open rather than keyhole.
But saying that, they've also told me they that their blood test showed my thyroid seems to have gone deranged again (whatever that means!) so I won't get operated on for weeks yet. Pah.

Another one on the slab yesterday, double hernia for me Umbilical & left groin both full open up jobs.
Umbilical initially seemed the most painful but now the one in my groin is swollen & bruising nicely. trying to keep moving about but feel a bit tired now so might go and have a lie down
2-3 weeks will be fine. I had a patient who had keyhole surgery for rectal cancer playing squash in 4 weeks.
