I’m thinking of getting the good lady to drop me off at sanquhar early morning, then taking 2 days to do the 80 miles to Melrose (one night bivvying in between), where my sister lives, and then a lift back upto Edinbugger and train home. Anyone ridden these sections?, and where to stay the night, somewhere between beattock and st mary’s loch methinks.

I’ve ridden a couple of bits. From Sanquhar to Wanlockhead it’s excellent. After this you go up Lowther Hill and after that to the road there’s a few walky bits but generally quite good. In between there and Innerleithen I’m not sure about but the section from Inners to Selkirk is very good.

Many years ago I walked it. Over Phawhope bothy would be convenient for you.
    How do you pronounce Sanquhar?
