Can't be bothered with reading the rest of the thread but hopefully somebody's pointed out what a tragic piece of crap trail NFT is. It's a bunch of fireroads connected by bits of wood. Altura is pretty good riding and stunning scenery, even the blue is okay for a short n fast blast.
All the seasoned mtb'ers will tell ya the proper stuff in the lakes is betterer and it's a fair point, tho if yer missus is anything like mine she'll hate it and prefer the trail centres. I did Borrowdale Bash (30km) and Back of Skiddaw (60km) last week starting from Keswick and both were fantastic.
