I decided to have the tubes snipped about 4 yrs ago, I have since got separated and met the love of my life, we want to have a child together and unfortunately my sperm have no tails.

Any advice or how much it would cost to get the wee fickers swimming again?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Are you sure you want to go through that again (shudder), they told me it would cost around £ 2k last year when I went to be sliced and diced.

It is not guaranteed to work and can be painful. Difficult and complex surgery

bigal on mleh had it reversed and he got olly/handz…. So if you want 6ft odd of cash draining liability, you go right ahead! 😉

kittens are nicer, cuter, cheaper and unlike kids, Social Services don't have a hissy fit when you put them in a sack and sling them in the canal!! 😆

Why do men not think this through before getting it done? Or do people believe the bullshit they tell themselves about their current being the last and only? 😯

    Sorry, I know that doesn't help…

I probably had my snip before some people on here were born..

And I certainly dont need a reversal, but, if I were to be thinking of it now, say early 30s.. would it be better to get some swimmers frozen prior to having the snip ?
Does this option get offered.. just throwing a thought into the hat…

How many kids have you got BigDummy? Or are you just happily dishing out your daily dose of sanctimony. You should charge for that!

None thhat I'm aware of. 🙂

Of which Greek restaurant in Pimlico are you the owner incidentally?

Now that was edit-tastically peculiar. 😀

I used to be very partial to the Cyprus Mangal.

Incidentally, I'm sorry if that comes across off. I just absolutely cannot imagine getting a snip done and then not ending up in the OP's position. All power to those who have more confidence in their arrangements and live to not regret their decisions. 🙂

only know of one guy had it done, the love of his life turned into the bitch queen from hell pretty much as soon as she was up the duff.

what about say you did it and just dont.

It's the kind of decision you have to be "extremely" certain of before you go ahead and get it done.

Do you really want kids that much?

If you're unsure enough to think you ought to get some frozen first, you shouldn't get it done full stop.

I was and still am certain I wanted it done, two kids is more than enough, if it all goes Pete Tong with the current Mrs Stumpyjon then:

    1. it's going to be quite a while before I settle down again.
    2. it'll been even longer before I contemplate having anymore kids.
    3. it'll be too late (IMHO) anyway, I don't want to have kids in my mid forties, I'll be retiring as they leave college etc.
    4. The two little bundles of joy I already have give enough grief as it is, the thought of more in differrent houses……….

It was quite funny actually, when i first saw the doc about it she went on about it not being easily reversible and was I sure etc. Reeled off everything above and more – her response was OK, so you have given this some thought then, too damn right.

Still the letter finally confirming everything had gone swimmingly (possibly not the most appropriate description) was a bit blunt, you are now sterile was a bit too direct.

I had a reversal about ten years ago, about ten years after the original vasectomy – sorry to say, it failed. Then went through IVF with my ex partner, and with hindsight, thank god, that failed.
Remarried nine years ago, and adopted two wonderful boys four years ago, and can say, hand on heart, its one of the best decisions I ever made, and in spite of what some people think, the adoption process wasnt that horrendous.

    Hmmmm

Ive recently been looking at having a vasectomy, and maybe some chaps on here can help.

    a) does it hurt
    b) how long for
    c) how long before I can get on the bike
    d) any major side effects?

    barnsleymitch

    Martin:
    a, yes
    b, a few days
c, depends how much of a jessy you are
d, tends to make you sterile

    Hehe Barnsleymitch :

    c) a big one
    d) I know that, but no seriously, any bad ones :S

    Martin,
    a. a little – I however was distracted by the absurdity of lying there with a man attacking my bits with a scalpel and his nursing assistant asking who wanted a brew……
    b. tender for a day or 3
    c. thats up to you
    d. Odd things can happen.

Mate of mine ended up with balls like buster gonad, very, very painful, had to be hospitalised and have them drained etc.
Me, i ended up with a mildly irritating infection in the same area. Cleared up with antibiotics.
Both the above are known 'side-effects'. All will be explained the doc as and when you broach the question with them….

I spoke with my doc on Monday (via telephone like) who said he would refer me, now would this be to a specialist?

Hmmmmm I dont like the idea of having my nates drained sounds nasty 🙁

    This is the absolute truth…
I had mine done years ago, on the day I was wheeled into the theatre where apparantly I was given a pre-med… Then I was introduced to the surgeon who injected my nuts, cos I hate lying flat without a pillow I decided to lever myself up onto my elbows so I could watch… any how, surgeon starts… I wasn't numb, so I told him and he said I was, so he carried on a bit more and I let him know a bit louder that I wasn't numb… so he injected me again and this time it worked so I then was able to enjoy the show.. (sort of)…
But, I was able to carry on a normal life from the very next day, the op did nit affect me at all.. and it was succesful.

a/b) not hurt but mild discomfort / a sort of tugging sensation in the lower belly during the process and the feeling you've been hit in the nuts for a couple of days after. Ibuprofen fixable as opposed to morphine required.

c/d) depends how healing goes. I picked up a minor infection which required the wound to be scrubbed out again and the healing process to start again, plus a dose of antibiotics. That did hurt (the scrubbing bit) I will confess but was done in 5 seconds.

    e) Fantastic. Didn't realise quite how rubbish condoms were.
