I’ve got some rubber vice inserts, but they dont grip firm enough, and the seal head is stuck pretty tight. Any other ideas? Never had ali inserts, do they really grip that tight without damaging the shaft?

    thanks

OK, sorted, a little more vice pressure did it.

Now to try and get the top cap off to replace the cheese bushing…

Had a few of these apart. An air pillow wrench makes the job really easy…. However I don’t have one. Tip for next time though is use an old inner tube… Obviously degrease the shaft fully and then tightly wrap a few turn of tube around it under as much tension as you can get. Job done.

Also used a wooden block in the past with a “v” cut into it.

Inner tube worked in the end, and a quick ‘snap’ on the wrench to loosen the cap.
