Well it's actually for a cheapo bmx. But whats the best way?

Thinking hammering it out with a socket extension? Then a knocking the new one back in with a peice of wood and mallet. Maybe using a vice for support?

    cheers

yep, sounds like you'll be following the international standard fitting/removal instructions to the word. (except the vice part)

Without a headset press/BMX BB press, that's what I'd do – steady as she goes, keep it straight…BOSH! Job done.

Since I was 7 years old your initial proposal was the method I used. Do it.
