Heading north of the border in early September and visiting some trail centres, but really fancy a couple of days in the middle of nowhere, away from it all and riding something natural. Any suggestions? The more remote the better, don’t mind a bit of hike-a-bike etc.

Check out the forums and articles on TrailScotland, loadsa stuff on there that’ll get you away from the “trail by numbers” trail centres

Burma Road, you probably won’t see anyone, but the commitment is not so severe if you’re on your own.

The Beinn a Ghlo circuit is a popular route that is sort of a gatekeeper ride to the really remote stuff. Easily accessible at Blair Atholl on the A9, but a great wilderness feeling once you’re into it – minimal hike a bike and a nice length, around 30 miles IIRC.

Would make a nice companion piece to something more teeth-gritting, e.g. the Ben Alder circuit up the road.
