As per my post. The reggae music I know and love all seems to be dated from the 60's to the 80's (Toots and the Maytals, Gregory Isaacs, Mikey Dread, Jimmy Cliff, Black Uhuru, Third World, Bob, Bunny Wailer, Steel Pulse, Misty in Roots, Lee Scrath Perry, Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths etc)
Are there any modern equivalents (if yes recommendations please)or is it all now the more aggressive dance hall stylee?

There is still some out there "roots reggae"
Some of the old stagers are still recording, some new folk record in a roots style
Ritchie spice is one name to look out for

Been wondering the same thing myself, as I haven't found much of the current stuff stands up (though despite the rampant homophobia, I find myself listening to Beenie Man quite often)). Instead I've been trying to expand my taste by listening to some of the less famous stuff from the 60s and 70s. I can't stop listening to / laughing at King Horror at the moment...

Anyway some modern stuff I like:
On-U Sound, Ghetto Priest, Adrian Sherwood, Stone Love Sound System.The NAS/Damien Marley Album is a good un, saw them live in Glasgow recently, gig of the year so far for me.
Easy Star All Stars are good as well they did Dub Side of the Moon, Sgt Peppers Lonely Dub Band and Radiodread, surprisingly good live band as well.Also Marleys Welcome to Jamrock is worth a listen, theres also a rarities album of his thats floating about the internet thats worth tracking down.
