Just browsing through my music collection , clicked on one of my forgotten favourites.

Jonathan Brooke & The Story – Plumb

Little known album, with a band that seemed ( to me ) to disappear.

Excellent album.

Have you got any forgotten favourites that you have re found recently?

Really random but someone posted an old car video on a bike forum, I was watching it and thinking I know that tune… what is it… what the hell is it… Finally realised, it’s the break from Non Stop Operation by the Dust Junkys, hadn’t played it in a decade probably. Incredible album, got to see them live again this year too

I never left them, but whatsisface in the morning on six music played Waiting Room the other day. Made the hairs stand up on me neck.

Fugazi by Fugazi* is just perfection imho.

*Many know it as 13 songs, but that was effectively an album made up of two EPs if I recall, Fugazi being the first.

Not listened to them in years, sure I’ve got an album or cassette.

Can’t, remember if I really liked them or only this song….

Just bought a new amp, turn table and speakers after the wife made get rid of my old quad amp and Lynn turn table about 8 years ago (yes I know!!) anyway dug out 3 crates of vinyl and am blasting out some Ride (nowhere album) soon to be followed by tevevision (marquee moon) and then maybe spiritualised live at the Albert hall….. All flipping great and not heard much in the last decade.
There’s a world of punk and reggae in there also that will be making an appearance.

I downloaded a best of Comsat Angels a while ago. Buggered if I know where the files are!

I just read the brilliant book “Playing the Bass With Three Left Hands” by Will Carruthers (buy it!!) so played the whole of
Spiritualized’s Lazer Guided Melodies (Will was the bass player on it). Bloody superb.

Funnily enough I listened to in utero and Siamese dream for the first time ages recently. Siamese dream is an absolute muthafucka and I just thought in utero was all about Dave grohls drumming, take that away and it’s not the album I thought it was.

I’m not sure there’s much else to rediscover fee on 1993, possibly rage against machines first record but not going there again.

Regularly go rummaging through the outer edges of my collection, digging out CD’s and cassettes. Brings back a lot of memories, good and bad! Current two I’m listening to in the car is Rancid’s And Out Come The Wolves and Kerbdog’s On The Turn. They’ve replaced the Skunk Anansie albums that have been repeated to death the last few weeks!

Know what you mean!
An album I did rediscover recently is a classical album called ‘Such Sweet Thunder’, by Caroline Dale, this is a track from it:

I have it on minidisc, recorded from a CD I borrowed from someone years ago, and it forgotten all about it until very recently when a chance conversation with the landlord of my local informed me that one of the locals, who I’ve known for quite some time and knew was a musician, was an Oscar winning cellist. I did t even know her name, we just chatted when she was back home in the village and came down to the pub.
Did a quick Google and it turned out I had two of her albums, the other is the soundtrack to ‘Hillary & Jackie’, about Jaquelline Du Pre.
Turns out I’d also seen her live, as part of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page’s band some years back!
She’s toured with Sinead O’Connor, and plenty of others, she gets name-checked here:

Been playing the album a lot since, I’d totally forgotten just how much I really enjoyed it when I put it onto minidisc.
I’ve now got both those albums on CD, plus several others of Caroline’s, just got to get her to sign them next time she’s back in Wiltshire. 😀

My daughter’s got into some different stuff recently – 21 Pilots and Panic! at the Disco mainly. Could be worse. However at the weekend she said she’d heard a couple of Green Day songs she liked. Have just then had the pleasure of introducing her to the masterpiece that is American Idiot. Released 2004, the year of her birth, and I haven’t listened to it through since about 2008

Screaming Trees – Dust, Soundgarden – Superunknown, Van Morrison – Astral Weeks, Ugly Duckling – Journey to Anywhere and Dr John – Gris Gris have all been revisited recently. All still as good as when they were released in my opinion. Sonos in the office is great.

Donks… if you like gary Numan go onto eBay and get Replicas Redux. Stunning album, the outtakes and alternate version of replicas is way better than thecreleased one.

Numan with little boots, look on YouTube, is stunning too.

I’ve just read Inside New Order by Hooky, which is a great book, a really good read, so I thought I’d stick Substance on.

It really is absolutely bloody brilliant. And sounds even better once you’ve read the story of them spending days and days programming the prehistoric samplers, drum machines and sequencers, most of which they’d built or modded themselves, for each track, then the weeks spent mixing and overlaying the tape loops. All while absolutely off their tits, and being virtually at war with each other.

truly a monumental, groundbreaking achievement
