  • Recon 29, weird damper behavior.

Servicing my recon 29er forks the other day, stripped out the fork, cleaned everything, greased seals etc and reassembled.

odd thing with the damper side is that when I manually compressed the shaft, it sprung back. (with the lowers off still)

these are recon gold TK, set to 120mm, nat that it should make a difference. oil volume is supposed to be 133ml, put that in using a syringe so well measured.

I’ve serviced loads of motion control dampers previously, and the TK is pretty much identical, however I’ve never seen this before, the damper normally you can push up and pull down, no springing back.

To me, it feels like there’s air trapped in the damper, acting as a spring, which there shouldn’t be with the correct oil volumes.

Should I undo the top cap, pull it out enough to get the end of a syringe in and top up the oil until it’s full to the brim?

    cheers in advance.
