had very numb feet on salisbury plain today, need some overshoes which do the job but won't cost the earth – any recommendations or good deals you've spotted.

Plus for a 44 shimano shoe will I need a large?

+1 for Endura MT500s. Make sure you fit them properly – if you don't pull them on fully at the back the zip is put under a lot of stress and fails very quickly. My LBS explained hoe they should look once on and following their instructions I have had no issues. They keep my shoes clean and toes toasty – very useful at this time of year.

contrary to the MT500 opinions, get some that velcro fit, its so much easier to get them on and off, I got some Altura ones that have done a few winterS use now, and are tatty but still doing the job. (try to not walk in any though as its that that kills em)

just put an order in for mt500s, rutland cycles was selling them for £17.99 which seemed a bit of a bargain.
