the jam may be the obvious choice? the jolt, the members, elvis costello, xtc, carpettes?
pretty much describes the 80s ‘mod’ movement tho, so secret affair, merton parkas, chords, squire, purple hearts, lambrettas, jags, nine below zero etc etc

How about – and very relevant to this forum (!) – “Wasting Time” by Strangeways? They were billed as being PowerPop at the time
