Father Ted…not British, but best comedy of the last couple of decades IMO.

Second Spaced, Peep Show, Still Game, MOdern Toss.

Spaced is possibly the best comedy ever made.

Teachers made me laugh, not been on for a few years mind.

by restricting it to Brit stuff you are missing things,

The Night Shift (icelandic — universal characters)

Monkey Dust– not possible to get the best ones, bbc self censoring at work again

The Boosh were realy good

Brass Eye

The Day Today

Him and Her

Wow, loads to trawl through here. I’ve seen about half of those mentioned but had forgotten some so I’ll definitely be revisiting some too.

Looking for British because currently an expat in Austria and need some British culture!

Love dark comedies so may watch some of those first.

this 😀 may contain graphic special effects gore and really bad horror writing (oh and some kick arse 80’s oot synth playing 😉

The stuff mentioned here is all funny enough (except the Mighty Boosh, that is just students pissing about and consequently entirely shit), but Spaced and the League of Gents (first two series) are PROPER genius.

Spaced for the sheer quality of writing and delivery, but League of Gents is really a work of art. One of the best TV series ever made, of any genre.

Mighty Boosh was excellent – funny and original.

Not British but Arrested Development is superb.

No, there’s a difference between cleverly made comedy and being a ****.

No, it was funny. Not opinion, FACT 😉

Funny, I think the opening intro of Boosh is funnier than the whole of League of Gentlemen, which I found to be a let down.
It was better on the radio, tbh, but that’s true for most stuff. 🙂

Haven’t seen it on here but I’ve scanned the list.

Look Around You

2 series of odd comedy based on 70’s BBC school educational videos for science.

Amazing

You obviously take your comedy too seriously. It was very funny. Loads of people think so.

+1 for Look Around You and The Trip.

I also quite liked Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, although it got cancelled pretty quickly, so clearly not many others are of the same opinion.

On top of the many that have been mentioned also going to add…
Episodes
Friday Night Dinner
Not Going Out

first series of Misfits

Still liking Misfits…yes first & second were best with Nathan but I still thought third was good. Not sure about fourth now only 1 of the original cast remains but still watching. Funny though it can be, not sure it fits into comedy 😕

Thick of it
HHGTTG
Father Ted
Drop the Dead Donkey

I know more would kill some of these series but how is it fair that we get 100’s of episodes of Charlie Sheen self destructing through the same joke for months and only 4 short series of Malcom Tucker!

Best comedy I saw of late was a one off: Holy Flying Circus.

EDIT Monkey Dust+1

The Limmy’s Show I watched earlier was pretty good,

Because good comedy is good for a variety of reasons, but a key one is knowing when to stop. This is usually 2-3 series.

The reason crappy shows are crap is because they are based on market research and forces and hence will continue to be made until they are no longer economical. And people being brainless sheep will continue to watch something for many series after it stops being any good.

NO ONE HAS MENTIONED “15 STOREYS HIGH”.

This is a complete travesty.

Yes, Garth Marenghi. Yes, Spaced. Yes, Boosh.

But please. Everybody. Watch 15 Stories High. I urge you.

Another vote for Flight of The Conchords – not “technically” British but still needs a vote!
