Early night and everyone else asleep, feeling a bit grumpy so a bit of escapism in order! To go to distant places or alien worlds and see vast things doing huge stuff in an epic adventure!

    Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

As a wee guide I have in the past enjoyed:

Original Star Wars (not so much the latter ones)
    Starship Troopers
    Oblivion
    District 9
    Edge of Tomorrow
    Alien
    Interstellar
    I am Legend
    Contact
    Elysium
    Close Encounters
    Riddick
    Sunshine
    Moon
    The Martian

    Etc

Avatar is on E4 now 🙂

Want something with a bit of a grim future thing? I liked Repomen. Justin Trousersnake is ok in the film In Time.

2001 A Space Odyssey is missing from your list. Not to everyone’s taste but if you consider when it was made I think it’s a stunning bit of cinema.

Great! A few here already to shortlist. I knew STW usually comes up with the goods! Keep em coming!

    2001.., Blade Runner

Sometimes wish I hadn’t seen these so many times as would love to experience for the first time again!

Solaris, and if you’re feeling even more adventurous, Stalker.

Try “Under The Skin” for an oddball “alien” movie, one of my fav films of the past few years but it seems to be a “marmite” experience for some.

Huge stuff and epic adventure, Battlestar Gallactica. Ok not a movie but well worth it. Reset my expectations of what sci-fi should be and as such alot of stuff is a bit rubbish now. I watched it and within six months wanted to watch it again.

    Under the skin is brilliant.

    I also really enjoyed Cargo:

Another vote for Solaris. The original obviously, although the Clooney remake isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

I’m currently enjoying The Expanse on Netflix. Outlander is a good film too – humanoid alien lands on Earth in the time of the Vikings, inadvertently bringing a “dragon” with him which duly proceeds to terrorise the neighbourhood

Event Horizon and 2001. And the Fifth Element! And Firefly/Serenity.

And stay closer to home with Strange Days and Looper.

Guardians of the Galaxy? Maybe not quite epic enough but I found it a lot more enjoyable than the comic books it’s based on.

Been off with a chest infection so binged a few. Really enjoyed live, die repeat surprisingly. Rewatched contact, elisium and new star trek and unfortunately the bilge which was the latest independence day

Is Saturn3 any good? I only remember Farrah Fawcett naked, Don’t actually recall if it was a decent film.

If we’re including TV, then I’ll second Expanse on Netflix.

Series 2 out in Feburary, and book six out next week! <squeeee>

Troll? nothing epic about any of them.

Edge of Tomorrow(Live.die.repeat) is very good for a “new” movie.

Also, having watched Deep Impact on the telly the other day, I got to thinking that it’s somewhat heavy on the gloom side and shy’s away from the love story like Armageddon. It pretty much says, yer all dead and not much hope! Quite enjoyed it really 😛

Either E.T. or Hard to be a God – basically the same film from opposite perspectives. Very opposite perspectives.
