Fancy booking a surprise night or 2 away with Mrs Lunge and would like a bit of inspiration for such a thing. The criteria is:
If the car or on the train, within 2 hour of Birmingham.
If overseas, 2 hour flight max and can go from either Birmingham or East Midlands.
Either a city that will be reasonably warm or a spa type affair.
Good food and drink.

Places I’ve been to with mrs. mogrim for a weekend trip: Lisbon, Oporto, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville – all recommended.

(Although Madrid’s not somewhere I’ve visited on a weekend trip as I live here, but I would still recommend it!)

I like the idea of that and it would be my first choice, any ideas as to where to look for such things?

How about going the opposite of warm, and heading to some of the Christmas markets in Germany. Keep warm with mulled wine…

Dusseldorf for example has good markets and is an ace city in itself.

Search for Capel Penant – she’ll love it.
Not a spa/city but so quaint and lovely she’ll melt at your thoughtfulness

Barca, pretty warm year-round, flights are plentiful, lovely restaurants.

Good underground too, you don’t need to mess about with taxis and all that bullshit.

i was mighty impressed with Kirkby Lonsdale for a mucky weekend. lovely little town to wander around, loads of nice pubs and a couple of quality boutique B&B’s. Also loads more strenuous activities locally if you’re inclined….

Either Granada or Ronda in spain – fly to Malaga from East Midlands and tehn 90 min drivae at the other end – both gorgeous cities, not as busy as a majoy city, so loads of time to walk around and have a beer, tapas, etc

Went to Ronda with MrsFla last weekend, 25 deg’s – had a fantastic time
