Looking at getting a blu ray player and surround sound setup.
Is it worth getting a home cinema setup with a blu ray built in or is it better to get seperate player and home cinema?

I went separate.

Onkyo HTS-5405 amp and speaker set
Sony bluray player (i forget the model).

if you don’t need the compactness\simlicity of a one-box solution, go seperate.

The ps3 is a fairly accomplished blu-ray player. its not the cheapest, but it does allow you to play games\watch movies & music stored on your pc\browse the internet\etc

good point… my sony player does do more than just bluray – it also does music and video streaming via DLNA from my NAS box, and it gives access to lovefilm, youtube, iplayer etc.
