I NEEEED a single speed bike but my budget only stretches to £200 due to the price of nappies.

Anyone got any recommendations or an unwanted mount that needs a good home?

Note that I’d be using it on the road.

    Cheers

It would be just for road use.

Langster looks a bit over budget at £350+

You should get a Genesis iO for under £200 (I sold mine for £120).
Fun bike (if a little bumpy).

Currently building my own for commuting to college.

All bits 2nd hand off of here or old parts I had lying around.

Spent about £100 in total. It’ll look like sh**t, but that’s the point.

Is that a recommendation? Never heard of Viking bikes, are they any good?

I was looking a Vikings on Amazon yesterday.
I had a Viking many years ago and it was fine, can’t say what they’d be like now but what are you expecting for 200quid?

Got a nice med ss iron horse with decent spec if you want, could prob do a deal.
Email in profile if you’re interested.
But for 200 I’d say second hand is your best bet unless you want heavy lump of a bike.

For 200, it has to be a used langster or kona paddy wagon or Giant bowery. Forget anything new at this price unless you like weightlifting. Frames are made of straight gauge lead alloy. Deader than a dead thing.

    For fast road, Langster
For commuting with guards and rack, paddy wagon.

I have the latter and it’s a lovely ride. Langsters are lighter but less versatile

Nope, it’s a hope someone will buy one so we can find out if they are any good… 😀

Components wise there is not much in it between the viking and the on-one, ok the frame is HiTen Steel, but that is no bad thing, as we all know there is a lot of bollocks written here about materials. For a cheap road commuter I think it looks excellent value.

Naaaa, hi-ten is what you make halfords BSO’s from, it’s a long way from 4130/520/525/doncaster gas pipe.

I’d get a 2nd hand langster or pompino or anything else, at least then it’ll be worth pretty much what you paid for it, that viking will be worth less than scrap in a years time if you ever try and sell it.

Like I said, a lot of bollocks is written on here about materials.. 😆

It’s not as bad as you think, plenty of decent bikes made from Hi Ten steel in the old days.
