Must be a pedigree breed. Not a border collie. Bigger than a border collie. Happy going up Munros as well as doing 40 miles around the Peaks. Think that’s all.

I think you need to be doing more research into dog ownership and their capabilities before you proceed any further.

A haggis should manage that be sure you get the one which corkscrew in the same direction as the majority of your rides.

    Must be a pedigree breed.

    Why?,

Not a border collie. Bigger than a border collie.

A fat border collie with labrador genes?,

Happy going up Munros as well as doing 40 miles around the Peaks. Think that’s all.

I think what you really want is a Maasai warrior, if you get a good one they will run 50+miles at a steady pace day after day which sounds suitable for your needs, pretty much self sufficient for food.

Or you could just buy a chihuahua and carry it in your handbag

Not much help i’m afraid but hey-ho…it’s almost the weekend.

you’ll need 5-10 dogs running in a relay to do a 40 miler in total

Can’t be arsed with this anymore…. get a Dalmatian.

Bred as a carriage dog, It’ll do 40 miles every day and still want more.

Mad as a box of frogs and virtually untrainable though.

    Like this one….

On the laptop? You want a border terrier for that kind of thing.

    Don’t go!

You need to hang about for the rest of the thread .

Like all threads on here , it follows a predictable pattern.

    Page 1&2 – Gentle pisstaking
    Page 3 – a few sensible answers
Pages 4-50 – a raging argument about why you should get a cat instead
Pages 51-100 – Three people, none of whom actually know anything about the subject, trading personal insults.

I always bail at the end of page 2

Dunno, I’m more of a cat person myself.

Have you thought about getting a cat instead?

My friend had a dog that could do that sort of mileage, running beside us.

    It was brown.

Here’s my Scottish Deerhound when he was younger. They don’t get much bigger than this, so will be no trouble.

That’s the great thing about SYW. It’s full of arcane knowledge.

I’d never heard of those breeds before. The Kenyan Nosehound looks friendly though.

But probably a husky or an Australian Blue Heeler. Not many dogs capable of 40 miles.

My wolfhound is knackered after about 6 miles or so, even at my running/shambling pace.
