I haven’t used flats for 10+ years but fancy giving them a go for an upcoming trip. Saint pedals look good but will they be an improvement over my old v8s? What shoes should I be looking at?

510’S (freeriders are sticky and relatively cheap) on nukeproof electrons. from my point of view there is noreason spending lot on fancy pedals just for them to get beaten up! Plus the nukeproofs have tons of grip and are light for their price!

Personally think the shape of SS Nanos is nicer than the Nukeproofs. 25% off just now with the code BTS25AD. It’s a while since I bought shoes, but my favorites ever have been Sombrios that cost me about £30 from CRC. You might still find some Teva Links cheap, if you’re lucky, but the grip a lot less than other shoes I’ve tried.

Yeah, second the nukeproof pedal suggestion….footwear is personal though, sometimes I wear old school Adidas Sambas with the clear/beige sole which is super soft and grippy but the sole is quite flexy, other times I’ll wear my 5:10s but they’re twice the price for just a stiffer sole.

I like my saints, they seem to have lasted better than nanos. Best pedals I’ve had for life have been Wellgo MG1.

All are grippy and work for me with a basic trainer with a relatively flat sole. I’ve never bought into the specialist flat shoe thing. Currently using some Nik trail runners but generally I just look to see what is cheap without a chunky sole in the local sports shop. They get trashed in 12 months riding.

Thanks. I’ve got an old pair of Etnies kicking about and so I can give them a go (not much protection though).

Shimano saints for pedals and shimano am41 for shoes.
