If you like sea food and don’t mind travelling east, you’d be hard pushed to beat this place. The Crab and Lobster

Chester? This is reasonable enough, busy at weekends but good food and clean with a good pool & jacuzzi & sauna, choice of eating at Cheshire oaks along with a range of evening activities. £110 a night B&B, excellent buffet breakfast

    Go to Birmingham (yes, really).
Stay at The Hyatt, Hotel du Vin or MalMaison.
Eat at either Purnells or Adams (Michelin starred), The Annexe or The Pickled Piglet (just damn fine food).
Drink at Gingers, Bureau or the champagne bar at The Cube.
Buy her something sparkly from The Jewellery Quarter.

    Done. (Puts on flame-proof suit…)

The Samling at Dove Nest is easy to reach, between Windermere and Ambleside. It has a barn for events and is very discrete and very good; you can have your own suite in a detached annexe. Mrs Gti and I got married there and took the whole place over for our families:

Agree on Chester. I wouldn’t do Manchester.

Keep em coming – not going to take the bike as simply not enough time and we need a bit of a rest.

Birmingham, Hmm mrs has muttered about the Jewelry quarter being nice

It really is, the prices are around 1/2, perhaps a 1/3 of the High Street, you can pick up some serious bargains. The only challenge is the sheer volume of shops there, if you do decide to go I can give you a shortlist of shops that are worth a visit. There’s also some very good bars and coffee shops there if you need to refresh yourself.

The rest of Brum is (in my very biased opinion) also very, very good and well worth a visit. The restaurants are worth the visit on there own, again, if you need ideas as to where to go I’d be delighted to help out.

Chester? no doubt project will be along any moment to tell you what a violent hell hole it is!… At this time of year id avoid a city break as even the nicest ones can look a little drab. I’ve just come back from a few days in Windermere (well bowness). the hotel wasn’t up to much but the area itself more than makes up for it, plenty to do and eating out is good, its where id be going…….

Forget the bike. How about this place:

We stayed here. I wasn’t expecting much but it is a 400yr+ hotel and I liked it.
