If you really want to keep up to date with new music, and quality re-issues that you missed first time around, then either buy, or subscribe to Uncut Magazine. Really good interviews with bands and musicians, loads of reviews, and an excellent free cover CD that just begs to be ripped into iTunes. Mine always are, and all my Word CD’s that preceded it.
In fact, the very latest issue CD has just this second finished playing, and I couldn’t hear a duff track out of the fifteen on it.
Just about to rip it, and chuck a selection onto the Pod.

I’ll baulk at recommending you albums as that is impossible without knowing your so called taste or preference in music, i suggest you follow a few of the following music sites/blogs and figure out where your musical sensibilities lie…and ditch your tv….it does nothing for you but suck the soul from your life.

Hype Machine

Gorillia vs Bear

Earmilk

Et Muisique Pour Tous

Indie Shuffle

A Strangely Isolated Place

Disquiet

TenTracks

XLR8R

That should keep you doing the two step bum shuffle for a while till you discover your likes.

Wilco Johnson and Roger Daltrey Going Back Home

Surely an album by Roger & Wilko should have been called “Over and out”??

Thanks for making me aware of it though, just found a track on Youtube, looks like that’s the next one I’m buying….

Now that i know this is a thing that exists, I must have it.
Good album, I could happily listen to Everest for hours at a time.

Saw them a few months ago and had one of those enlightenment moments upon realising i was surrounded by the type of short, wiry, bespectacled, balding men who you’d put money on having electricity connected to their sheds and skills with a soldering iron. Felt like i’d finally found my people* (A very entertaining show too)

deserter They can sometimes fall into the trap of just putting lots of bass on an antique sample, but generally they do good works with a hell of a range of guests ( J.O.G.J.A. with Indonesian vocalists is brilliant)

*my shed does not have electricity, but i have a dream. and a soldering iron.

OP, I noticed you like Lily & Madeleine, in which case I can, without reservation, recommend The Staves, three sisters who harmonise beautifully, and The Wailin’ Jennies, a Canadian-based trio who also have sublime harmonies. You may also like, based on your short list, Paper Aeroplanes, from Wales, a duo who write sublime songs, and Rae Morris, who’s touring as part of Bombay Bicycle Club, but is recording work of her own.
Saw her a week ago in Bath, and I’m seeing Paper Aeroplanes in Bristol on Tuesday

I would add, that all of the above artists, and many, many, many more I’ve seen, and bought, I’ve discovered through BBC 6Music.

one Im looking forward to released in a couple of weeks, Lost Dream by The War on Drugs:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lost-Dream-War-Drugs/dp/B00INE1ZFY/ref=sr_1_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1394045463&sr=1-1&keywords=lost+in+the+dream

Particularly like. Red Eyes. (you can listen on You Tube)

and I think Im about to press buy on Harlequin Dream by Boy and Bear.
Might be a bit saccharin for some, but then I love Bon Iver & Volcano Choir

War On Drugs Red Eye is in my Shazam tags list, one of many from 6Music. I saw Boy and Bear as a support in Bristol, trying to remember who they were supporting*. I thought they were interesting, and worth keeping an eye on, and I’m liking what I hear, 6Music again are playing them quite a bit.
Someone else who’s getting a lot of attention, and I like a lot, is Luke Sittal-Singh. He’s got an EP out, and an album due sometime soon-ish.
I always get to gigs early, partly to be at the front, but also for the support band, because you never know who you’ll get.
I saw Blondie supporting Television in Bristol, Dire Straights supporting Talking Heads in Swindon, and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers supporting Nils Lofgren in Bristol.
* It might have been The Staves, at The Trinity, but I’d have to check.

Paper Aeroplanes have a new EP out:

The physical version is sold out, only 100 made, (got mine, signed :D), but can be got from Soundcloud, itunes, etc.
Two really beautiful songs, I really love this band.
I’d also recommend Angus & Julia Stone, going to see them in Bristol next month, with The Staves supporting.
Really really looking forward to this gig, both bands/artists are just so good at what they do.

Asaf Avidan – Different Pulses – that’s working for me just now.

I was going to download CHVRCHES album the other week, but listened to samples on Amazon and decided against it. Downloaded Foxes, Glorious instead – really like it, if a bit samey throughout….
