I like the idea of a helmet camera to capture my biking exploits.

    Are they any good?

What would the STW massive recommend?

footage from my contourhd (click the hd button on youtube!) :

I need to stop it from jiggling around so much but it looks like that is how helmet cams are.
the vented helmet mount for a contourhd is rrrrrubbish. the goggle mount is pretty good though.

ive got a goPro, its great and seems pretty durable with its waterproof case, but on the downside in a XC helmet you look like a tellytubby (I mount mine under the peak of my full-face for DH). Its a lot less faff and equal picture quality than my friends with analogue feeds into stand alone DV cam setups, and as a self contained unit its small enough to stick in a ride pack "just in case"

GoPro HD is due to be released soon, slightly better specification that the Contour HD (although it looks considerably worse!). The housing is fully waterproof unlike the Contour, which is why I'm waiting for it (then it can be used for kayaking duties also).

Try mounting one of these like a go-pro and tell me how your results look

I reckon they should be pretty sweet…

Been running a VholdR Countour HD for a little while, the picture and the product is superb, but i've literally had to wedge the wedged shape end of a clothes peg to stop the camera vibrating so much once thats done though the quality is very good, deals with light changes pretty well and its easy to use…

The GoPro cannot be beaten for the quality of the mounts. They are rock solid

See this vid for how good the mounts are http://www.vimeo.com/4459946

Actual video quality is better than that on vimeo as it was compressed for upload
