Following on from the '**** I have blown my engine' thread I need another car.

I have a comfortable car (CL600 V12 AMG) so want something fun. It is to replace my beloved Integra Type R. The main criteria as massive fun to drive, sod the comfort. The downside is I only have 5K to spend so Ariel Atoms and Caterhams are out of reach.

    Any ideas welcome.

Any offers for a good condition, single owner from new, Integra Type R (with blown engine) also welcome.

    What sort of age?

    Hot hatch? Convertible? Track Car?

Honda S2000 would be around your budget. They still look nice and go like stink…

Vauxhall did their own QC after they recieved their cars from Lotus, and a lot went back to Lotus for rectification.

petesgaff – Yip driven both. Owned an Elise for 4yrs. Handling of the Elise was far better due to the 120kg weight reduction compared to the Vauxhall as was acceleration.

sorry a couple of small cracks … its a **** hole the size of my fist and a rear light cluster + the difuser is hanging off ….

    Interesting…

I thought the Elise was a remarkable car, but less torquey and didn't feel as solid, especially in the corners. I'd pick the VX as an everyday rocket anyday.

Still – each to their own eh…?

alexx – Y2000 Integra. I have owned it from new and driven every one of the 140,000 miles.

Flipidy – Fun car. No practical requirements. Road legal.

PetesGaff – Nice find, shame it is **** at the back. VZ/Elise debate: I reckon VX is easier day to day but Elise is better for fun on the limit which is where I live.

Surf-Matt – Thanks. I bought it by mistake when driving home one day.

2002 ish civic type r ( the older better looking shape) about 4k.

juiced – thinking of making a change from the Honda. I don't like to do the same thing twice. Same problem going for a luxo sports car – it overlaps too much with the Merc.

Tempted by the Westfield/Lo-cost things. Trouble is I have the mechanics ability of an orang-utan on acid

    TVRs start at 10K

Motorbike – Wife won't let me, check my name.

Renault – nice but fancy something with 2 seats and no roof.

MX5- Buy it in winter though and when its raining and 5k would get you a 04 1.8. Buy now and 5k would get you a 2002 5-owner shed.

    'hora in sensible post' SHOCKER!!

I was actually looking at one of those as a third car before I blew up the second.

Get down to the import auction and buy another rice rocket. If you go 10 years old or older no need for SVA. £5k should find you nice Imprezza, Evo VI or Skyline. 944 Turbo float your boat? They used to be £5k for a '89 vintage.

Outside choice but the last shape MR2 is a FANTASTIC handling little car. I've had huge fun driving one around South Devon and Dartmoor. 140bhp (could handle much more), RWD, light and well made. Also genuinely nice to sit in with the right leather colour.

The "right" MX5 is a cracking car (late mk2) but they are in big demand. MR2s less so but I reckon the handle better. If they stuck the 190 1.8VVti engine (same as the 140 more or less) of the Celica, it would have been an Elise basher.

Mk1 MX5 with a turbo or supercharger fitted.

excellent handling, with the added poke – well within budget.

Thinking MX5 but I am at the age when MID LIFE CRISIS keeps appearing.

    So may be a TVR.

    No, that doesn't work either.

May be I should forget about other people and just buy the next car that catches my eye. That is how I bought the Integra in the first place (and the Merc)

    Cheers guys.

Pissed and off to bed now
