No doubt along with the rest of the western world, we’re thinking of grabbing a couple of days in a field at the weekend. Looking for something not too far away – maybe an hour and a half’s drive tops from East Lancs – and has some easyish biking suitable for a convalescing girlfriend. Stomping distance of a local watering hole would be good too.

    Anyone got any inspired suggestions?

    Turner Hall Farm, Seathwaite.

Brilliant, beautiful little site, pub within walking distance. Admittedly she may not fancy Walna Scar, which starts near there, but there must be stacks of gentler riding in there or further down the valley.

    we enjoyed this place:- http://www.silloth-house.co.uk/

Austwick near Clapham and Settle. Small site but friendly owners and lovely setting. Nice stroll to Clapham where there are decent cafes (and a great park for any kids) to recuperate before the stroll back . The local pub is supposed to be very good , so good in fact that we couldn’t get in for a meal so be sure to book before (the campsite owners would book it for you if you ask when you book).

oh and the lanes are great round there..pretty sure it’s bridleway over to Austwick (loads of cyclists there stopping for tea and cakes). Very close to the Pennine Brideway also so that will get you onto other routes.

Good call – Austwick is lovely. The pub is called The Gamecock Inn, and I can vouch for its niceness. Definitely some gentle but excellent riding from there, too.

Ripley campsite and easy walkies of the tiny village, with a boozer with a beautiful little garden; tiny bit posh but no too much so.

..and you’re within minutes of loads of great places to ride/visit.

    Just a follow-up to this,

We’ve just got back from a weekend at Turner Hall campsite. Cheers to martinhutch for the suggestion.

Didn’t take the bikes in the end, weren’t up to it; got a bit of peace and quiet to chill out instead. Site was miles away from buggerall, but pretty much what we wanted. The campsite had a bunch of small fields rather than one big one so with a bit of judicial planning we had a field to ourselves in an otherwise fairly busy site.

The pub ten minutes’ walk away had three or four real ales on and simple but tasty home-cooked food, and friendly staff.

Great chilled weekend, loved it. Thanks again for the tip.
