Something that can fit racks for a weeks road tour of the Hebrides – any thoughts?

Kona Sutra, Dawes Galaxy, Ridgeback Voyage / Panorama, Spesh Tricross……….

Depends on budget and what’s already in the garage.

you’re surely not going at this time of year!

i didn’t use any specific bike when i lived there but something that can take the iniquities of bad roads, copious sheep shit and a lot of blowing about would seem sensible.

    so whatever you fancy really.

oh aye, and while the main road might be quicker and, in some ways, more picturesque, don’t be missing out on a daunder down the golden road. it’s lovely (esp in the rain and mist!)

Almost anything – the roads are generally pretty good.

I did it on a Sutra and my mate had a Tricross. We saw another guy with a Kona Jake.

The two main off-road options are (a) up the West Coast of S Uist – this can easily be tackled on touring tyres and (b) across Harris. I took the view that using an MTB for the whole journey just to do this bit was a poor compromise and stuck to the road.

If you want need any inspiration/ideas, I have a little tale to tell – and some photos – Here
