so after taking my new 29er out “properly” for the first time i have discovered that the “rocket ron” and “racing ralph” are great on dry trails and not bad on rocks but oh dear got they are crap on roots by the end of the ride i had no confidence to hit a root at anything other than slow pace and 90 degrees square on!!

previously ran conti mountain kings on my 26 inch bike which were ace but cant run 2.4’s on this new frame as it would be too tight

so what 29er tyres are we recommending???

Beavers, crossmarks and ikons all fine for me on roots. The latter two are maybe too much on the “getting places quickly” side of things if you’ve root issues.

Chunky monkey and smorgasbord at the burlier end of the scale. Trail extreme smorgasbord on the front maybe if roots are putting you off?

(my local riding is in the woods round Brizzle, roots all over the shop!)
