Camber sands is about the only sandy beach I can think of on the south coast.

As picturesque as many of it’s seaside towns are, Suffolk has mostly pebble beaches.

Edit: But as you head into Essex they start to get sandy, we occasionally go to Clacton for the beach (and little else!)

If you head Essex way then Frinton is your best bet.

Nice sand, free parking and no commercialism/tat…. which is lovely

But if you want a some of that… because lets face it the little ones like the arcades even if you don’t… head to clacton on your way home.

There’s a great one between Margate and Broadstairs, but the name escapes me for now….
    Kingsgate bay perhaps?

Depending on where in London you are there’s also Holkham Beach…

    Aldeburgh in Suffolk is lovely.

It is, but it’s pebbly rather than sandy…

Witterings are lovely, expect to sit in horrendous traffic getting there if the weather’s nice!

    +1 Witterings.

Was last there a fortnight ago. Even with the traffic there is a huge car park and easy access/quick to the beach. Dogs not allowed on the main (central) area, but are fine either side. Decent enough amenities too.

Frinton is very nice, as mentioned. Like going back in time!

Holkham is stunning but it’s North Norfolk. Camber is as sandy as it’s gets on the SE Coast, worth visiting Rye and Winchelsea whilst you’re there.

    Singletrack is ace. 🙂
    Thanks all.
Frinton ( not Clacton 😉 ), The Witterings & Joss bay top of the list. I’ve been to Holkam beach before and the slow roads through Norfolk put me off going back for a flying visit.
Hopefully the roads wont be too bad , I’ll travel there tomorrow evening , plus the schools are all back now.
