Bought a Honda NX400 Falcon trail bike on a bit of a whim, having withdrawal symptoms after selling my last bike etc. It’s lovely but seem to have problems finding anyone to provide comp or TPFT insurance cover, I know I should have checked this out first, previous imports I’ve had haven’t been a problem. It’s a made in Brazil Honda based on an XR400 and unfortunately on the drop down menu for all these quote sites the model is not listed. A couple I called will provide 3rd party only cover at some astronomical rate as they rank it like one of those Chinese Hongdukwakaiki things that seem to have flooded these shores – they have a kind of catch-all cover for anything they are not quite sure what it is.

Anyone know any companies to try? Cheers

Carole Nash are bike specialists, I normally phone them up so don’t know if their site lets you “auto quote”.

Thanks – they were one of the ones who could only do third party only at a v.high price, cheers though

Yeah, give carol nash a call.

Won’t be much. I think a dominator cost me £60 a few years ago.

    EDIT: have you called them?

Yep I called them. Annoyingly a UK XR400R (basically the same bike) is as you say coming out at £66 a year fully comp, the catch all third party price for this £250…

Did you actually speak to Carole Nash? They do a lot more than the website offers. Adrian Flux used to be good too- those 2 are the only ones that’d insure my bike in the end, but Carole Nash distinguished themselves…

Everyone else- “Oh it has too many modifications and too much tuning”
Carole Nash- “Is it turboed? No? Is it stretched more than 50%? Nitrous? Not even a little bit? BORING”

    That’s a nightmare.

I bet you could get an XR400 frame and v5 for £50 off ebay to ‘do up’ with bits from the donor bike you’ve just bought…

Heh, remember the first time I called Carole Nash.
    “Any modifications?”
“Well, here’s the thing. I want to fit an illegal race exhaust and my current company is being awkward.”
“OK. And when would you like the cover to start?” 😆

I know you have it sorted now, but if its older than 15yrs Footman James are a good bet if you don’t mind joining the Honda owners club or suchlike.

Motorcycle Direct wanted £50 admin fee from me for changing address 👿

Carole Nash tried to deny that they had agreed my premium would be reduced once an on going claim had been settled & even tried to say that reinstating my 10yrs plus NCB would make no difference to my policy 👿

It’s 6 years old, £160 fully comp with the legal cover, so more than if a UK XR400, but I can live with that I guess and lesson learnt to think a bit more about insurance before buying stuff there and then
