4 of us fancy a trip to the Alps somewhere in May/June. Cheap simple digs and access to big hills and long rides. We will all be on 130 ~ 160mm trailly type bikes, two of the lads are a bit more into bike park type stuff and two a bit more into longer XC type rides, but a bit of both. Some climbing is fine, but lots of lift access is best.

    Any ideas?

Just do Morzine. If you’ve not been its definitely worth it and theres plenty of variation. Particularly if your up for planning a little bit more. Plus you’ll have access to the whole portes du soleil. Self catering chalet between 4 at that time of year will be quite cheap too.

    p.s. can i come?? 😆

Morzine easily ticks the boxes. Plenty for everyone riding wise and lots of other stuff in a nice location. Only issue is that the lifts don’t open until late June.

Morzine is the earliest alps lift opening – last week of June normally. Before that the hills are still covered in snow! Push into July and your options open out a lot.

French Alps maybe, Austria opens before and closes later. Check out Leogang/Saalbach/Hinterglemm

Just book with the white room.

It’s no more expensive than a diy holiday and someone cooks etc for you. Why waste valuable riding time in the shops getting food in and then cooking it when you could be riding.

We’ve done it loads of ways, with trail addiction, white room, singletrack safari, diy.

By far the best was the white room.

Expand your horizons. Morzine is great, especially if you want there to a bit of nightlife, but there’s certainly better places to ride.

I’d personally recommend Andorra. Might not be the Alps but it’s just as east to get to and is much cheaper. Soldeu and Vallnord are in my opinion better than the parks at Portes du Soleil and more suitable for smaller bikes. The weather is much more guaranteed than the Alps too.

I can’t speak for the trail riding as much and understand the non DH trails at Morzine are becoming more accessible bit there will be plenty around.

Think about later in the summer if you want lift access, most resorts won’t open their summer lifts until late June early July.

Agree with previous poster about Andorra, it’s a bit harder to get to than other european resorts, but the riding is pretty epic.

Good point on the lifts opening. Andorra was only 3 or 4 more hours than Morzine driving from the North.

Much harder to get to and probably harder to do on the cheap but Finale would be good if you had to go earlier and the lifts weren’t open elsewhere.

May is very early. Many Alpine resorts are still skiing. Morzine/Les Gets are quite low so lifts open earlier for biking although full PdS oinks only open at end of June (stillplenty to do before then). You might like to look at Basque MTB or Riviera as they are in warmer spots.

Don’t the lifts open earlier in Morzine for access to Crankworks in Les Gets?

If it’s got to be May/June then how about Switchbacks or Ciclo Montana?
Both have plenty of uplift in vans, Switchbacks maybe slightly more but Ciclo are the better vibe/organised.
