I had a Lezyne pressure drive but lost it on a bouncy fire road the other week. Needing something that is bottle cage mounted, looks decent and doesnt rattle like the Lezyne please. Needs to get 35cc tyres up to 60 plus psi.

    Thanks

I have one of these (came on a bike I bought years back). Mounts under bottle cage and fits tight to frame. Very secure and rattle free and survived some pretty big mountain days.

I also have a better pump for what you want, but the frame mount is not as good as the specialised one. If you use the frame mount on the bottle bosses it is very good baut you cannot then mount the bottle cage as well (unlike the spez one). You can mount it on the side using cable ties to retain the bottle cage but this kind of defeats the object. However, it is a superior pump in every way.

We’ve been mtbing for 25 years and have tried loads of junk pumps from almost every brand. This one from Rose bikes (was also previously sold as an Axiom pump) is the best ever.

Cheap, reliable (our original one from 2007 still works like new), does road pressures easily (e.g. 100 psi yet still only holding it with fingertips) but still fast for mtb tyres.

We’ve stockpiled a load and some spare seals – at less than £11 including a secure bottle cage clip it is fantastic (and functionally better than pumps costing 2 or 3 times the price).

There is a 1/4 turn cam that holds it together when not pumping – mrs does a rough canal towpath commute with no ejection or rattles – not sure what it is like on rough gravel.

strange, in true STW style I was going to suggest the alloy drive “like wot I’ve got”, using the supplied velcro strap mine doesn’t rattle and haven’t lost it in 12months of use. (got a pressure drive too but it’s a bit weedy for pumping up 35c tyres so keep that for the road bike)

topeak pocket rocket good for a few 1000k of corrugated gravel roads – gets pressure when needed – def no rattle but having lived in Yorkshire it does have an extra velcro strap so i don’t have to replace it this millenium

^^^^^ I wonder if mine rattled ‘cos it was old 🙂 I see there is a version 2 one now, so maybe it’s better and not rattly ! I have a new pressure drive sitting in my crc basket, just hovering incase any other ideas. I actually have an alloy drive too, which lives in Camelbak for MTB, but the one for the cx bike needs to cover all bases from 35 crossspeeds down to 32c tourers and the alloy drive struggles at higher pressures

    FWE pump
‘disclaimer’ etc I work at Evans who import this. I tried 5 different pumps over a longish period before a big ride a while back, looking for a pump that was reliable (no hoses or gimmicks to break, etc) as well as able to seat a tubeless tyre trail-side, ie that perfect balance of volume, stroke, ease of use etc. This was what I took with me and it’s been the best pump I’ve used so far. Really good quality kit. I have the hi-pressure version in silver on my road bike, both frame-mounted. Either size works well for CX 30-40CX tyres.

in non STW style I’d say fair enough either bought it and loved it or bought it and hated it – if never bought it ???…..

never bought a Lezyne one but what kit of their’s I do have would say worth a punt, quite impressed

I’ve got a Lezyne Sport Drive HP on my road bike and it seems secure, I haven’t noticed it rattling and it pumps tyres up reasonably quickly.

Only downside is it looks a bit cheap (black plastic) but they do other versions that are chrome and look a bit more ‘pimp’.

I’m struggling to get a Lezyne pump mounted securely at the moment (pump might be nice but mount is rubbish and I find the pump slips and rattles. I’ve just mounted it upside down to see if that is better otherwise I’m buying another Topeack RaceRocket (worked fine on my other bike for a few years).

I was going to recommend one of the Topeak pumps – I’ve had it for good two years, it’s been working very well, nice and solid mount, spares easily available…

And then I realized that I actually found it in the woods, so someone had actually lost it! 😆
