Ray Edwards our new guide is having problems with his rear wheel, he’s breaking half a dozen spokes every trail. Any tecky people got any ideas on why? He’s just come back from working the winter in Morzine and won’t accept my opinion that him weighing 100kgs its not the wheel.

When some spokes go, just replacing them isnt going to work IMO. A complete rebuild with new spokes and even re-tensioning around the whole wheel is best. Im 95+Kg and have never broken a rear spoke yet and all my wheel builds are still tensioned and true.

Is he being sympathetic with his mass on the bike or letting it slam down without any give?

    What wheel is it?

I suspect it’s simply poorly built in the first place

IMHO once a few start going it shows the age/stress they’ve been under and the rest will follow. If properly tensioned you will still hear the difference between an old set of spokes and and new set just by running your finger round.

what stoner said i am 65 kg and had this happen full rebuild required IME.
Weight is not the issue tbh

Agree with the above. Complete rebuild will see it right. Unless it’s a really old wheel.
