following on from my thread yesterday about replacing the bearings on my 5.5 intense, they are it would seem standard size bearings so i’m looking at getting some normal rubber shieled jobbies off ebay then packing them with grease.

does anyone think, especially considering that my current bearings lasted all of one summer before siezing solid, that its worth paying considerably more for skf bearings? 2.89 each vs 5.49 for 10 normal.

when repacking with grease, finish line ok or is there a more specialist grease?

I’d buy SKF, not personnally sold on the re-pack myself, but others heartily recommend it.

As arguement for the having 5 ‘normal’ (cheap chinese more like) bearing for every SKF, I’d rather just replace bearing once a year, rather than 5 times a year…

    I dunno re bearing brands.

I would say pre-packing is well worth it (any decent grease) and you’ll agree once you see how little is in the new ones.

Enduro MAX bearings supposed to be the best for low rotation piviots such as suspension on mtbs.

    get em from here null

i replaced mine with cheapo dual seal ones from simplybearing or similar and in the end i think i saved all of ten quid so next time i’m going to just get these. but they do seem to work fine for now.

I used to repack mine when I was skating. Extended the life a bit but new ones (I’d repack the new ones too) were always much better than buggered around with old ones.

Oddly, I always used SKF bearings when skating. Used to get them from a local (local then, not local now) industrial bearing supplier.

go for the skf – i’ve just re done my hope hubs and they seem to last ages -the last set lasted over 3 years
